.... and now ...
BAGPIPES TOO!!
Turlach Ur will hold it's 4th Annual Scottish Drumming Workshops on July 6-8 in Grinnell, Iowa. This year, there's something new ... there will be a BEGINNER BAGPIPING workshop too!! For snare drummers, it's three days of fun and effective workshops led by instructor Malcolm Rosenberger of Pine River, Minnesota. This is a great opportunity for players of various levels to improve skills and have a great time. There's also a two-day beginner snare drumming workshop.

Mini-band Success in Chicago!
Turlach Ur entered two mini-bands in the Midwest Pipe Band Association mini-band competition held in Chicago on March 27. Of the six bands competing in Grade 5, our bands took 1st and 4th place. (Tied for 3rd, but missed out due to a tie-breaking rule.) We're especially proud of this result because we made a point of balancing the two bands rather than stacking one with the strongest players. |

Strong Showing in Springfield!
 |
Across all grades, Turlach Ur fielded the largest band at the Springfield Highland games held in Chatham, Illinois on May 15. The band finished third in the Grade 5 contest, but took second in drumming and won best bass section! The rainy weather didn't keep our soloists down either. Turlach Ur pipers and drummers recorded a 4th, two 3rds, a 2nd, and four 1sts!

Turlach (TUR – lock)-a large fire
Ur (ur)-beautiful, flourishing, fresh, new, vigorous
Founded in 2007 and based in Grinnell, Iowa, the Turlach Ur Pipe Band now boasts a roster of 25 pipers and drummers. We will add two new pipers in the summer of 2010 and have another six piping and drumming students working hard. More than half of our band members are junior players, ranging in age from ten to seventeen. Together, they make up Turlach Ur's increasingly popular youth band, the Turlach Urchins.
Turlach Ur holds weekly band practices and monthly group lessons at which all levels come together for instruction in small groups (and lunch in a big group!) We pride ourselves on playing great music and having a great time. The two come together in our concerts, which easily are among the most fun and imaginative pipe band shows anywhere.
